The aim of the planning is to develop a car-free, mixed-use residential neighbourhood with accommodation for all typical forms of housing. The historic barracks complex in the east and the new neighbourhood with modern building forms open up to a common green centre. The historic axis is strengthened as the backbone of the complex by being graphically reflected in the outdoor surfaces. The ‘passing axis’ to the north/east access remains for non-motorised traffic. The new quarter as a recognisable, independent cluster is contrasted to the ‘military’ austerity of the historic barracks building. Special attention was paid to the transition from point typology to the barracks typology. Through a rhythmic interplay of rectangular rotated and point-shaped cubatures, a harmonious transition is created. The cluster forms manageable, identity-forming neighbourhoods for the future users. The neighbourhood squares are lively centres. North of the market square are small with shops, surgeries and care service to counteract the lack of local amenities. The green centre provides with its recovery and retreat areas a new quality, which radiates into the immediate surroundings.
